How to Take Advantage of the Credit Crunch
How to Take Advantage of the Credit Crunch
By Steve Hill
The credit crunch is starting to bite, more and more people are of the opinion that a recession is imminent. Each week we hear another bad news story from the business sector. There are, however, opportunities that we can take advantage of during these troubled times. In this article I will be explaining just what these opportunities are.
You may or may not be surprised to read that the UK and United States stock markets are lower today than they were ten years ago. This is some what of a bizarre thing as people are always advised to invest over the longer term and that equities will always outperform deposit based saving products over the longer term. Even now we probably have seen these stock markets reach their "low point". I am not a financial adviser and therefore what you read in this article should in no way be seen as advice, I am merely giving my opinion on certain financial matters. I really believe that by starting to invest now into equities, saving a monthly amount to take advantage of pound cost averaging, that you could make a fortune; this is certainly something that I am doing.
There are also opportunities in the housing market. We have seen some quite dramatic falls over the last twelve and there are likely to be more to come. This will lead to some houses becoming available for sale by owners who are desperate to sell. Forgive me for sounding like a vulture however this is business and a recession does not come around that often. Again it is about picking the right to buy and that time is probably around six months away from now.
Businesses have also been hit hard by this credit crunch. Profits will have tumbled and some of the old guard may well have had enough. Businesses will therefore be available for purchase at a fraction of what they would have cost only twelve months before. This is a good time for acquisitions especially for businesses that are cash rich.
As you can see it is not all doom and gloom, there is still money to be made even in a credit crunch.
